I've decided to join the bandwagon and review Beauty and the Beast.
I am one of the very enthusiastic Disney fans. I love the movies, music, parks, history of Walt Disney and some times the TV shows (I haven't watched a lot in recent years).
Beauty and the Beast (animated, 1991) is one of my favorite movies of all time. I am, and always have been, an avid reader and as a child, was a bit of an outsider. So to see Disney make a princess out of a character who is "a funny girl" instantly endeared Belle to my heart. And when the Beast gives her that library... #relationshipgoals
I obviously had high hopes for the live action version.
Disclaimer: Spoilers below.
From the beginning of the movie, I was instantly enthralled. The sets and scenery were detailed and exquisite. The costumes had a great amount of layered detail. The visuals in this movie were outstanding...definitely Disney quality.
Within minutes of the start, Emma Watson transformed into Belle and I was hooked. Her singing voice is not as good as a trained, professional singer, but I felt that made it more real.
At the castle, there was a lot of CGI. That's all I'm going to say about that.
I enjoyed the backstory about where Belle's mother was and how the Beast became an orphan. The only thing that was weird was the book thing that allowed them to travel...it was strange. I also appreciated the insertion of the reason the villagers did not know about this castle.
Josh Gad as LeFou and Luke Evans as Gaston stole the film! They were fantastic. Josh Gad absolutely stole every scene he was in.
As for the "exclusively gay moment" that has been referenced...it is LeFou and an unnamed character dancing together for 2 seconds. Not worth the hype.
This movie was everything I hoped it would be!
